During March-July 1997 joined Shell Petroleum Development Company (Port Harcourt, Nigeria) as a senior reservoir engineer (on sabbatical). Was responsible for hydrocarbon production forecast from prospects offshore/onshore Eastern Swamp Area of River States, Nigeria.

(1992-1998) – independent consultant for various companies in Norway. From 1996 to 1998 consulted Statoil in various aspects of petroleum reservoir and production engineering.

In 1995-96 with Assoc. Prof. J.-R. Ursin initiated and conducted research project between Stavanger College, University of Trondheim and the State Gubkin Academy of Oil and Gas entitled “Optimization of Strategies in Oil and Gas Reservoir Engineering and Management” sponsored by the Norwegian Research Council.

In 1996 with Assoc. Prof. Arild Saasen initiated a new project “Scientific Collaboration with Russia” between Stavanger College and the Sate Gubkin Academy of Oil and Gas.

In 1993 taught a course of lectures at Daqing Petroleum Institute (China) on selected chapters of reservoir engineering and provided consultations for staff/senior engineers.

During 1993-1994 gave lectures at the Mining University of Leoben (Austria) and at PETROBRAS (Brasil) related to the petroleum industry of the Former Soviet Union and run seminars on stochastic simulation of oil recovery processes.

In 1993 (in co-operation with the Mining University of Leoben, Austria) initiated research project on a field-scale stochastic modelling of oil recovery processes, sponsored by the Norwegian Research Council.

In 1992 participated in outside financed project on evaluation of advanced IOR methods applicability in the North Sea formations.

Theoretical foundations and advanced engineering support for design of oil and gas field development. Development of advanced methods for Project Analysis, Design and Decision Making in Petroleum Engineering under conditions of uncertainty. During this period was in charge for a number of specific R&D projects, including several full-scaled field development projects, project analysis for matured fields in the Volga-Ural region of Russia, methodology of computer modelling, multiple-objective design and analysis of oil and gas field development. Wrote with Prof. Y. Zheltov and Dr. I. Ponomareva a monography entitled “Predicting Methods of the Oil and Gas Industrial Complex Development” (1991, 325 copies, 231 pages, hardbound), published by the "Nauka" Publishing House (Moscow, Russia). Also wrote a textbook entitled Modelling of Oil Displacement Processes by EOR Methods (1990, 400 copies, 267 pages), published by the State Gubkin Academy of Oil and Gas (Moscow, Russia).

Did work in reservoir engineering, analytical/numerical simulation for EOR methods, including chemical flooding and thermal methods of oil recovery. Wrote with Prof. Y. Zheltov, Dr. I. Strizhov, and Dr. V. Zaitsev a hardbound textbook entitled “A Book of Problems in Reservoir Engineering” (1985, 3000 copies, 295 pages), published by "Nedra" Publishing House, Moscow, Russia. Participated as a deputy project leader in several oil field development projects (Pionerskoye, Vishnevo-Polyanskoye, Mishkinskoye, Yarega oil fields).

Post-Doctoral Fellow

Under a supervision of Prof. H.J. Ramey, Jr. participated in (1) well-test project, made 3D numerical simulator for well testing in a stratified reservoir; (2) in-situ combustion research program (analytical/numerical modelling of in-situ combustion process), presented 3 papers at SPE conferences in 1978/79 and published 2 articles in SPEJ in 1979 and 1984.

Junior Researcher

(The Moscow Gubkin Institute of Oil and Gas, 1972 – 1978)

Did work on analytical and numerical modelling of different thermal and thermo-chemical methods of oil recovery. Was responsible for application computer software programmes of the Department of Petroleum Engineers. Advanced his education level at the Moscow State University, obtained MS degree in Applied Mathematics.
